The Legend of the Desert – Giornate degli Autori 2026

On 9 September at 1:00 p.m., at Sala Laguna in Venice, The Legend of the Desert, a documentary by Elisabetta Giannini, produced by Marechiarofilm with Antonietta De Lillo, will be screened as part of Giornate degli Autori 2026, during the Venice International Film Festival, the world’s oldest film festival and one of its most prestigious.

This is a story that touches us deeply.

In the 1990s, Carolina, an eight-year-old Italian girl, travelled to the Sahrawi refugee camps. That journey and that encounter would remain with her.

In a way, it is the reverse of the journey made every summer by our Little Ambassadors of Peace: Sahrawi children of the same age who come to Italy and are welcomed by our families and communities.

Two journeys in opposite directions, thirty years apart. The same age, the same gaze, the same extraordinary ability of children to encounter one another before they even understand the distances that separate their worlds.

Today, that memory has become cinema and is coming to Venice. For us, this is both moving and deeply significant.

To everyone who can be there, we ask you to come, to share this invitation and, above all, to bring someone who does not yet know the story of the Sahrawi people. This, too, is a way of breaking the silence.
