Western Sahara: Africa’s last colony Occupation, Resistance, Exile, and Parallels with Palestine

📍 11th June, 7:00 to 9:30pm, Palestine House, London

Join Sandblast for an evening of insight and discussion at Palestine House.

Amidst decades of flagrant violations of international law, Morocco has occupied Western Sahara through ongoing systemic and militarized violence. The relentless Moroccanisation of the territory, the mass displacement of the Saharawi population into refugee camps, and the building of a lethal border wall in Western Sahara are undeniable similarities to the continued erasure and violence experienced by Palestinians.

We’ll explore the Saharawi story and the striking parallels with the Palestinian struggle for liberation - including shared histories, forms of oppression and resistance, and a global system that continues to enable the two occupations.

You’ll hear directly from Saharawis living in Western Sahara (under Moroccan occupation) and in the Saharawi refugee camps in Algeria, as well as UK-based activists. Come along to show your interest and solidarity for a people who have been largely abandoned and betrayed by the international community.

We are grateful to Ali Abou Khalil from Let’s Talk Palestine for organising and moderating this awareness raising event. All proceeds go directly to Sandblast, and our friends at Western Sahara Support Group, supporting Saharawis in the refugee camps.
