Sandblast in Solidarity
On November 8th, 2025 Saharawis across Europe held demonstrations - and the Sandblast London team joined one here in the city.
Saharawis across Europe and beyond held demonstrations to protest Morocco’s Green March in 1975, which mobilised 350,000 of its civilians to claim the former Spanish colony of Western Sahara as its own.
Sandblast joined the demonstration held in London in front of the Moroccan Embassy along with other members of the Saharawi diaspora and the UK solidarity movement,
Sandblast team member Vedika Mathur, powerfully read out a statement in English written by the UK Polisario representative, Hamdi Yousef.
You can read a transcription of the speech below.
“Brothers and sisters,
Friends of freedom and justice,
Good afternoon.
We stand today in front of the Moroccan Embassy in London to raise the voice of the Sahrawi people — the voice of freedom, dignity, and self-determination — against the Moroccan occupation and its so-called “autonomy proposal.”
Let it be clear: the so-called autonomy plan is not a solution — it is an attempt to legitimize occupation and to bypass international law and United Nations resolutions that affirm the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
From here, in the heart of Europe, we send a message to the world:
Enough silence in the face of injustice! Enough indifference toward the suffering of the Sahrawi people in the occupied territories!
We call on the British government, the European Union, and all peace-loving nations to uphold international legality and to pressure the UN to finally organize the long-promised referendum on self-determination for Western Sahara.
We reaffirm that the Sahrawi people will never accept anything less than full freedom and independence, and that true peace can only be built on justice — and justice means ending the Moroccan occupation and allowing the Sahrawi people to freely decide their future.
To our brave brothers and sisters in the refugee camps and in the occupied territories: you are not alone.
Your struggle inspires us, and your resilience gives hope to all those who believe in freedom and dignity.
Freedom for the prisoners,
and Victory to the Sahrawi people.
Thank you.”
